Below is some information related to computer classes. Check back again soon.
Keyboarding
Keyboarding is introduced as soon as students begin using computers in the computer lab.
Students have ongoing instruction and practice in keyboarding with emphasis on correct finger placement on the keyboard. As students master correct finger placement, typing speed increases. The goal by the end of 8th grade is to keyboard at a rate of at least 25 Words Per Minute.
Students needing practice at home would benefit from practicing at least 10 minutes a day with a keyboarding progam. A home edition of the same typing program we use in the computer lab is available to families. Ordering information was sent home with students in grades 4-8 in Nov. There are many keyboarding programs available for retail purchase, and a different one at home might be more fun/engaging for younger students.
Nearly every student today will have a job that involves using a computer. High school students are required to type the majority of their assignments on the computer already. Help your child do their best by setting aside time to practice at home (even if you do not have a typing program). Encourage them to use correct fingering when using the computer - especially when emailing and IMing.
